Content
The MHRA’s Twitter accounts are managed by the Communications Division, on behalf of colleagues across the MHRA.
We may occasionally use some automation (such as tools which generate tweets from RSS feeds) but intend that this will not dominate the messages posted.
If you follow us, you can expect between two and ten tweets a week covering some or all of the following:
- alerts about new content on our other digital channels (news, publications, videos on YouTube, publicity campaigns etc)
- invitations to provide feedback
- occasional live coverage of events.
Following
If you follow any MHRA Twitter channels we will not automatically follow you back. This is to discourage the use of direct messaging, avoid wasting resource handling spam and so that you can easily identify other key Twitter users that follow. However, being followed by an MHRA Twitter channel does not imply endorsement of any kind.
Availability
We will update and monitor our Twitter accounts during office hours, Monday to Friday. Twitter may occasionally be unavailable and we accept no responsibility for lack of service due to Twitter downtime.
@replies and direct messages
We welcome feedback and ideas from all our followers, and endeavour to join the conversation where possible. However, we are not able to reply individually to all the messages we receive via Twitter.
The Communications team reads all @replies and direct messages and ensures that any emerging themes or helpful suggestions are passed to the relevant people in the MHRA.
We cannot engage on issues of party politics or answer questions which break the rules of our general comments policy.
The usual ways of contacting us for official correspondence are detailed in the contact us section of our website.
MHRA comments moderation policy
We welcome lively discussion, but ask you to please bear in mind our guidelines when submitting comments.
Moderation guidelines
We ask that your comments:
- are on-topic - please don’t post messages that are not related
- respect other people; comments should not be malicious or offensive in nature, and should not constitute a personal attack on a person’s character
- don’t incite hatred on the basis of race, religion, gender, nationality, sexuality or any other personal characteristic
- don’t reveal personal details, such as private addresses, phone numbers, email addresses or other online contact details
- are reasonably concise, and don’t constitute spamming of the site
- don’t impersonate or falsely claim to represent a person or organisation
- are not party political in nature. This is a government website and comments used for party political purposes cannot be published for propriety reasons
- don’t include swearing, hate-speech or obscenity
- don’t break the law – this includes libel, condoning illegal activity, and breaking copyright
- don’t advertise commercial products and services – you can mention relevant products and services as long as they support your comment
- are in English – unfortunately, we do not currently have the resource to moderate comments in other languages
- if you are aged 16 or under, please get your parent/guardian’s permission before submitting a comment - users without this consent are not allowed to participate or provide us with personal information.
We reserve the right to suspend comments at any time. Where we choose not to publish a comment for a reason other than those listed above, we will reply to the commenter by email explaining our reason and inviting them to make appropriate changes so that the comment can be reconsidered.
This is not about censoring your views. The aim is to ensure that comments relate to the particular subject being discussed. Moderation will not be used to suppress legitimate, reasoned discussion.
