Search tips for MHRA website

The search box is at the top right of every screen. This searches the entire MHRA website. To get the best results follow these tips:

  • use quotes ("...") to search for an exact phrase
  • use keywords rather than natural language,
  • refine your search by using the advanced search options.

There is a link to the advanced search page directly below the search box. From the advanced search page you can search the whole site or specific types of document within it.

The advanced search also has various options to help narrow your search. "With all the words" will return results that include every word typed. "With the exact phrase" treats the words typed as a phrase and will only return results where all the words appear together. "With at least one of the words" searches for all the words and returns where at least one of the words appears. "Without the words" is used to exclude words from the search. The first three options can be used either on their own or with the other options. The "Without the words" option must be used with one of the other options.
