Since the launch of the FSN pages on the 28 July 2006 we have been optimising our advice concerning their use by those involved in healthcare.

In October 2006, we began to send e-mail alerts to subscribers only when the FSN was first placed on the website and when MHRA had decided to issue supplementary advice, usually in the form of a Medical Device Alert.

In January 2007 we altered the general advice for the use of these pages to clarify that the FSN webpages had been introduced for information purposes only and that healthcare establishments need only take action if they either received a direct notification from the manufacturer/supplier or if MHRA issues supplementary advice.

In April 2007 we ceased to use the fourth option/box on the FSN pages. This option had been used to inform users of the webpages that the ‘Manufacturer considers FSCA is complete in the UK’. MHRA took this decision in order to focus resources on informing readers on actions that need to be taken and that contribute directly to our primary task of promoting public health. We regret any disappointment this might cause. If, as happens occasionally, MHRA are informed during the period of our initial assessment that a Field Safety Corrective Action is complete in the UK, then we will indicate this on the FSN page.
