The MHRA is advising consumers not to buy the potentially dangerous herbal slimming products specified in this warning, as laboratory tests found evidence of pharmaceutical ingredients not declared on the label that may pose serous health risks.

Products:

  • Expelling Grease Slimming Abdomen
  • V12 Fruit Slimming
  • 100% Natural Weight Loss Coffee
  • Leisure 18 Slimming Orange Juice
  • Fashion Slimming Milk Shake
  • Langli
  • Ya Buk
  • Fruit and vegetables lose weight

The MHRA has received advice from the Danish Medicines Agency that these unlicensed products have been tested and found to contain the Prescription Only Medicine Sibutramine which was withdrawn from the market in January 2010, on safety grounds, due to increased risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Another Prescription Only Medicine, Phenolphthalein has been found in Expelling Grease Slimming Abdomen. This was previously used as laxative but is no longer authorised for sale in the UK because it may cause cancer.

It is unclear whether these products are available in retail outlets but could be available on the internet.
