The instructions for several brands of these devices have changed significantly in the last two years.
 
Action by:
All medical and nursing staff, particularly infection control teams and specialist IV nurses.
 

Action:

  • Check that up-to-date instructions for use are available to all clinical staff.
  • Update local policies and modify training programmes if necessary.
  • The 'National Guidance for Preventing Healthcare Associated Infections' (epic2)
    recommends monitoring device associated infection rates when new brands of needlefree connectors are introduced.
