Problem:
The lack of vent holes or the blocking of vent holes in the hand control casing can lead to a build-up of battery gases, causing the case to split, which can result in injury to the operator’s hand.

Action by:
Bath lift users and those who are responsible for the management of bath lifts. In particular nurses, care staff, equipment managers and maintenance staff or contractors.
 

Action:

  • Withdraw MDA/2007/039 and issue this alert to replace it.
  • Trace all Homecraft Rolyan bath lifts.
  • Remove from use and quarantine all hand controls manufactured before 31 May 2002.
  • For hand controls manufactured after 01 June 2002 ensure that the vent holes are not covered by any label.
