Problem:
Some bed rail support brackets have been found to have poor welds causing them to fail in use. Patients are at risk of injury from a fall if the bed rails fail in use.

Action by:
All those responsible for the maintenance of hospital beds. This includes maintenance staff or contractors.
 

Action:

  • Trace all Contoura 880 beds.
  • Check their serial numbers to see if they fall within the serial number range 167386 to 382938 manufactured between December 1999 and June 2001.
  • For those within the serial number range, examine all four brackets for signs of cracking in the areas shown in the appendix.
  • If evidence of cracking is found, contact the manufacturer on 0121 556 1511 who will provide and fit replacement brackets free of charge.
