DEVICE:
Baxter Colleague volumetric infusion pumps: all models.

PROBLEM:

  • Colleague pump batteries may become damaged due to excessive discharge (completely run down).
  • If this happens the battery loses capacity and when the low battery alarm is activated the expected 30 minutes of operation before the pump stops and gives the battery depleted alarm cannot be guaranteed.
  • This can result in an interruption to therapy with a risk of death or serious injury, particularly when no mains power is available e.g. during transfer or transport.
