Oxygen cylinders & regulators

Oxygen cylinders and regulators are used widely in healthcare establishments and we receive reports of problems such as: lack of training; misconnection of oxygen regulators onto air cylinders and air regulators onto oxygen cylinders; damage to cylinders and regulators from being dropped.

This leaflet provides reminders and tips on care and handling to minimise adverse incidents.

Reporting problems

Oxygen cylinders are classed as a medicine - problems with these should be reported to our Defective Medicines Reporting Centre (DMRC). E-mail: dmrc@mhra.gsi.gov.uk

Detachable regulators are classed as medical devices - problems with these should be reported to our Adverse Incident Centre (AIC), preferably using the online facility.
