MLX 348 sought your views on proposals to allow members of the Armed Forces to supply and administer medicines in emergencies or in circumstances where customary levels of medical support may not be available due to the isolation of the location or other circumstances.
Outcome - December 2009
Consultation letter MLX 348 was issued on 1 July 2008 with a deadline for comments of 24 September. It was circulated to a range of interested organisations throughout the UK and a copy appeared on the MHRA website. The MHRA received 12 responses, of which three related to the devolved administrations.
The replies can be categorised as follows:
- Medical/Pharmaceutical organisations - 6
- Armed Forces interests - 1
- NHS bodies - 3
- Individuals - 2
Nine of the replies expressed broad support for the proposals. Three made no comment on the proposals or expressed no preference. None of the responses expressed opposition to the general principle of allowing members of the armed forces to supply and administer medicines.
