Generic versions of piperacillin/tazobactam will be released onto the UK market in the coming months. These generic medicines have a different formulation and compatibility with other medicines compared with the brand leader. These differences raise the potential for serious medication errors.

Generic piperacillin/tazobactam must not be mixed or coadministered with any aminoglycoside, and must not be reconstituted or diluted with lactated Ringer’s (Hartmann’s solution).
