The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) and the Appointments Commission are pleased to announce the reappointment of one member to the Herbal Medicines Advisory Committee (HMAC).
The HMAC is an independent body that works closely with the MHRA, advising UK health ministers on traditional herbal medicines.
Dr Jidong Wu is a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner and a senior lecturer in traditional Chinese medicine at Middlesex University. Dr Wu is also a member of the Chinese Association of Acupuncture and Moxibustion in China, fellow member of the Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine and honour member of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine.
Dr Wu has been re-appointed to the HMAC for a four year term commencing 1 April 2010.
These appointments are not remunerated, however a fee of £275 per meeting for members is paid to cover preparation and attendance together with any travel and accommodation costs.
All appointments are made on merit. Political activity plays no part in the selection process. In accordance with the original Nolan Recommendations there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity (if declared) to be made public.
The appointments have been made in accordance with the Commissioner for Public Appointments Code of Practice.
