The Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain and the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, to strengthen working relationships and help achieve core objectives.
The document was signed on Monday 3 March 2008 by Jeremy Holmes, Chief Executive and Registrar of the Society and Professor Kent Woods, Chief Executive Officer of the MHRA. It outlines the basis of co-operation between the two organisations and clarifies the boundaries and areas of joint collaboration, such as ensuring the safe public use of medicines and devices.
The two organisations have agreed to co-operate as far as possible to ensure that relevant information is shared between them. The working relationship will be characterised by regular on-going contact and open exchange of information. There has also been agreement to organise joint training for inspectors, and where appropriate, undertake joint investigations.
Jeremy Holmes, Chief Executive and Registrar of the Society, said: “I am pleased that the Society is able to strengthen its fruitful relationship with MHRA. This partnership will improve working procedures, and will help both organisations benefit from each other’s knowledge and expertise. Together, the MHRA and the Society will work towards making Britain the safest place to take medicines.”
Professor Kent Woods, Chief Executive Officer at MHRA said: “The MHRA welcomes the Memorandum of Understanding, as it is a positive step forwards to better information sharing between the two organisations. I feel this will enable a greater interaction between the Society and the MHRA, both working to a common goal of safeguarding public health.”
