The Health Sciences Authority (HSA) in Singapore has detected a potent prescription only medicine 'tadalafil' impregnated in the capsule shells of a traditional herbal supplement, 'XP Tongkat Ali Supreme'.
'XP Tongkat Ali Supreme' is marketed as a traditional herbal supplement for men and claims to be 100% natural. It is labelled as containing Tongkat Ali, a herbal ingredient. When tested, 'tadalafil' was found not in the contents of the capsule as is usually the case, but in the capsule shell. The most obvious reason being to avoid detection of this adulterant. 'Tadalafil' is the active ingredient in a prescription only medicine Cialis, which is used for the treatment of male erectile dysfunction, and should only be used when prescribed by a doctor. Uncontrolled consumption of 'tadalafil' is dangerous and could potentially cause serious adverse reactions such as heart attack, stroke and severe hypotension.
'XP Tongkat Ali Supreme' is distributed in Singapore by the company CTI Biotechnology Pte Ltd. This product is also known to be sold over the internet so consumers are warned not to purchase 'Tongkat Ali Supreme' and not to consume any stocks of this product they may have bought.
