Advertising complaint - Tredaptive (nicotinic acid/laropiprant) - journal advert, Clinical Medicine - April 2010 Edition

Please note: In October and November 2010, the MHRA moved from its Market Towers address to a new location on Buckingham Palace Road. Please go to the contact us section of the website for updated contact details.

A healthcare professional complained about an advertisement for Tredaptive produced by MSD for healthcare professionals, which appeared in Clinical Medicine, in April. The complainant was concerned that the advertisement was untruthful as it stated ‘with risk coming from multiple directions …’ and the image showed cycling as a risk to a subject with dyslipidaemia.

The MHRA did not uphold the complaint. The image of a cyclist on a pavement in the advertisement was considered to be illustrative of a more general concept of risk.
