A healthcare professional complained to the MHRA about an advertisement for CalCold and CalCough produced by McNeil Products Limited for healthcare professionals, which was published in Chemist & Druggist of 10 May 2008. The complainant was concerned that the advertisement promoted products in age groups for which they were no longer indicated.
The MHRA upheld the complaint. Johnson & Johnson (J&J) explained that republication of the advertisement was a result of a misunderstanding between the publishers of the journal and the company’s media agency. J&J stated that they have put a robust action plan together to prevent such an error happening again.
