Boots Pharmacy complained to the MHRA about a promotion for Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets Triple Packs, containing 3 packs of 32 tablets, on the Pharmacy 2U website during January 2008. The complainant was concerned that the website was promoting the purchase of an inappropriate quantity of an over the counter product containing the analgesics codeine and paracetamol and that there is not a licensed "triple pack" available .
The MHRA has made it clear that the sale and supply of large quantities of over the counter analgesics are strongly discouraged since they may undermine the intention of the pack size restrictions that the Government introduced for the protection of public safety.
The MHRA upheld the complaint and Pharmacy 2U withdrew the promotion immediately.
