Advertising complaint - Chemist Direct website promoting Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets Multipack - February 2008

Please note: In October and November 2010, the MHRA moved from its Market Towers address to a new location on Buckingham Palace Road. Please go to the contact us section of the website for updated contact details.

Pharmacy2U Limited complained to the MHRA about a promotion for Solpadeine Plus Soluble Tablets Multipack, containing two packs of 32 tablets, on the Chemist Direct website during February 2008. The complainant was concerned that the website was promoting the purchase of an inappropriate quantity of an over the counter product containing the analgesics codeine and paracetamol.

The MHRA has made it clear that the sale and supply of large quantities of over the counter analgesics are strongly discouraged since they may undermine the intention of the pack size restrictions that the Government introduced for the protection of public safety.

The MHRA upheld the complaint and Chemist Direct withdrew the promotion immediately.
