Anaesthetic machine - large

About the training
The safe and effective delivery of general anaesthesia has become an essential part of modern healthcare. The anaesthetic machines used vary from one manufacturer to another and yet incorporate many common generic features.

This educational package looks briefly at the history of the anaesthetic machine and then covers the basic principles involved in the safe use of anaesthetic machines.

The MHRA receives approximately 60 adverse incident reports a year.

The package starts with an early history of anaesthesia and anaesthetic machines and then explains the inner workings and safety features of modern machines by building a facsimile of a machine within the module. There are a series of embedded quizzes throughout the programme to aid users in remembering the important facts.

This educational package has been designed to complement the training already provided by other professional bodies and manufacturers.

Who should complete this training
This package has been produced for a wide audience and we hope that it will prove useful to anaesthetists in training, to consultant anaesthetists for revision, to anaesthetic practitioners, to operating department practitioners, other theatre staff and a wide group of individuals.

Learning objectives
The training is intended to be a reminder of best practice and will provide all users with a better understanding of why procedures need to be followed, the value of record keeping and the possible pitfalls with cutting corners.

Time required
The training module runs for around 45 minutes.

You may pause and then return to the package but you will need to remember where you paused and then pick up from there by clicking on the page tab that you left.

You may need to allow time for the page to load as it may contain video. Please be patient.

The educational package is presented in two forms. In the review version you can have multiple goes at each answer to learn as you go through. With the certificated version you only get one chance at the questions and you have to achieve over 80% success to obtain the certificate of completion.
